Waving Goodbye to Student Life

As you've probably noticed, I haven't posted in a little while! So this is just a quick update.. I've been very busy lately with moving out of my uni house (boo) and back home down south, I've also gone back to Tesco part-time to earn some money while I look for more permanent work.

Anyway, I'm very happy to announce that I have graduated with a 2:1! I now officially have a degree in BA (Hons) Fashion Business and Promotion, yay!

Missguided Set to Open First Bricks and Mortar Store (Finally!)

My prayers have finally been answered; online fashion retailer Missguided is opening its first physical store with an exclusive concession in Selfridges Manchester in the Trafford Centre!

The brand recently announced its bold move into US stores, and today have opened a new concession at Selfridges in Manchester, which is also where the brand started.

This Girl Can

Ok so I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I wanted to do a post on my admiration for the This Girl Can campaign. This is a nationwide ad campaign set up by Sport England to get women and girls active, regardless of shape, size and ability.

"Fear of judgement is stopping many of us from taking part in exercise.
But as thousands of women up and down the country are proving, it really doesn’t have to."

Dior // Secret Garden IV

Global superstar Rihanna has become the first ever black woman to front the high fashion brand, Dior in their fourth instalment of their 'Secret Garden' series.

 Rihanna said of the accolade, “It feels fantastic. It's is such a big deal for me, for my culture, for a lot of young girls of any color. I think to be acknowledged by Dior means a lot, as a woman, to feel beautiful—to feel elegant and timeless.”

Oasis x V&A

High street fashion brand Oasis have teamed up with the Victoria & Albert Museum for an exclusive capsule fashion collection.

 The new collection consists of casual jackets, wide-leg high-waisted trousers, voluminous culottes and A-line midi skirts, all covered with prints famed by the V&A.

 A competition fronted by Magnum and ASOS has been banned by The Advertising Standards Authority for being misleading. The advert offered 25 winners a "£5,000 Henry Holland dress".

Bad Marketing or Clever Brand Attention? Bus Company's 'Ride Me All Day for £3' Ad Campaign

New Adventure Travel, a bus company based in Cardiff, South Wales, has relented and said it will withdraw the offensive advertising campaign following a huge online backlash.

The ad campaign, shown below, features a topless woman holding a sign with the suggestive phrase 'Ride Me All Day For £3'. There is also a male version which has received just as much negative attention.

Michael Kors: Is its Over Exposure Detrimental for the Brand?

Whether you're interested in fashion or not, I can almost guarantee you will have heard of Michael Kors. Products of the 'affordable luxury' brand can be seen almost everywhere and it is popular across the globe, primarily among the 16-25 consumer.

In February, MK released its sales figures, which showed a disappointing drop in revenue for the end of 2014. So is the heightened popularity and affordability of Michael Kors making it less desirable?

Coca-Cola Embark Upon 'One Brand' Strategy

Global soft drink giant, Coca-Cola, has revealed its new ‘One Brand’ marketing strategy; whereby the advertising and packaging for each of its products, Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coca-Cola Zero and Coca-Cola Life, will be marketed within the master brand, as opposed to being presented as separate brands.

Met Gala 2015 // Best Dressed

The Met Gala is my personal favourite celebrity event of the year. Each year the Met Ball welcomes extravagant glitz and glamour from all the biggest stars of the moment.

The A list event marked the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibition at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each Met Ball is themed, and this year it was titled “China: Through The Looking Glass.

A new fashion campaign headed by Rape Crisis South London, and led by four feminist campaigners has been  drumming up consumer interest as of late with the much shared hashtag, #thisdoesntmeanyes

This campaign follows a survey conducted by Amnesty International, which revealed that a quarter of people believe women are partially responsible for being raped if they wear revealing clothing (shocking, I know.)

Swimsuit Brand Respond to Protein World's 'Are You Beach Body Ready?' Ad Campaign

It's the topic everybody seems to be talking about right now... Protein World's 'Are You Beach Body Ready?' ad campaign that launched last week in the London underground has received much negative attention and public retaliation, with consumers stating that they find it offensive. The ad has been criticised with promoting a self-conscious body image and pressure to "have to be slim to wear a bikini".

So it seems Kendall Jenner has followed in the footsteps of her sister Kim and gone... blonde?!

Don't worry though, it's only for her latest Fendi campaign. The high fashion brand instagrammed this pic of Kendall with fellow model Lily Donaldson, swapping their signature hair colours for each others.

actually think the Jenner model suits the new 'blondes have more fun' look, but lets be honest what wouldn't suit her with that face?!

Bruce Jenner: The Interview

As an avid KUWTK watcher and slight Kardashian obsessive, I was all too eager to tune into Bruce Jenner's recent tell-all interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC. 

The interview addressed the long-term rumours of Jenner's gender transition from male to female, with Bruce quoting 
"for all intents and purposes, I am a woman."

Wanderlust

Subsequent to my recent trip to Venice (read here) I've been busy compiling my bucket list of places I'd like to visit.

In no particular order...

1. New York

"The city of dreams" 
NYC is without a doubt in my top five places to visit. I long to experience the true hustle and bustle of city life, go to a broadway show, eat a burger the size of my head and of course, visit the Statue of Liberty amongst other infamous NYC attractions.

This is part of a new marketing campaign that links with International Women’s Day on 8th March.

Recipe // The Green Juice

A while ago, I made the decision to purchase a Nutribullet. For those of you wondering what this is, the website describes it as a 'nutrition extractor', but this basically means powerful blender.

It's incredibly easy to use and clean, and helps with getting your five-a-day in a quick fuss free juice or smoothie.

Below is my own recipe for a delicious yet nutritious green juice

Travel // Venice


So I’ve just returned to a very wet and cold Birmingham from a lovely sunny weekend in Venice, which was my 21st birthday gift from my boyfriend.  It’s the first time I’ve been to Italy but definitely wont be the last. Venice is truly beautiful, full of interesting culture and gorgeous sites, a few of which I thought I’d share with you all.

Accommodation & Transport

We stayed in a private apartment, which we found through Airbnb, this is a great website for finding inexpensive alternatives to hotels, which can sometimes feel a bit clinical. The apartment was situated in the heart of Castello, which is conveniently near to the water bus stop of San Zaccaria. We arrived in style (or so we like to think), on a private water taxi transfer from Marco Polo Airport. This cost us around €110, which is quite pricey compared to the €15/€20 for a public taxi, but we hadn’t pre-booked and it shortens the journey from 90 minutes to 30 and is a great way to start off the holiday; I mean how couldn’t anyone have fun on a speedboat!
